On April 24 – 25, 2008, a key NSFC (National Science Foundation of China) project, ‘Impacts of water diversion in Yangtze River Basin on estuarine environment and their counter measures’ (Project No. 50339010), was examined by an expert team, and the results were considered to be excellent. The results revealed the evolution of the discharge and sediment of the Yangtze River，and the impacts of water diversion on estuarine environment, which provide scientific basis for solving technique problem in major projects in the Yangtze estuary.
