On September 20th, Prof. K. J. Beven(Lancaster University, U.K.)visited the State Key Laboratory of Hydrology-Water Resources And Hydraulic Engineering, accompanied by Prof. Ren Liliang, deputy director of the lab. Prof. Peng Shizhang, Director of the State Key Laboratory, met with prof.K.J.Beven. Prof. Liu Ling, deputy director of laboratory, Prof.Chen Xi, chief scientist of the lab, Zhang Danrong, director assistant attended the meeting and made an academic discussion together. Later Prof. Beven gave a report on “A History of TOPMODEL ”.
Professor Beven is one of most famous hydrologists in the world with great reputation in the this field. His main research areas are: hydrological modeling research, uncertainty analysis of hydrological model and pollutant transportation, etc. His most significant contributions are like: (1) propose the TOPMODEL;(2)propose the GLUE method of uncertainty analysis of Hydrology. TOPMODEL now is the most widely used hydrological model in the world, and has being studied and applied by hydrological researchers in China. For his great contributions, American Geophysical Union (AGU) granted him the famous HOLDEN Prize.
Prof Beven’s current research contains flood risk analysis, movement and transportation of phosphorus in watershed, the effects of climate and land utilization on flood runoff and frequency, nonparametric estimation of precipitation-runoff nonlinearity. He has published over 200 papers and wrote 5 monographs.
