Kang Shaozong

Prof. Kang Shao-Zhong (1962-), born in Hunan Province. His research is mainly on the principle and practice of water-saving agriculture and water management during the past 25 years. He has developed theories and practices to improve crop water use efficiency and regulated deficit irrigation by studying the water transport in soil-plant-atmosphere continuum (SPAC) and its regulation mechanisms for improving water use efficiency, presented the controlled indicators in Northwest China for high efficient irrigation by studying calculation method of crop water requirement and evapotranspiration model, and established the optimal regional water management model by studying the impacts of water-saving irrigation and regional irrigation development on hydrological processes and eco-environment. The high efficient irrigation model and new water-saving method developed by him have been extended broadly in Northwest China.  He won one first prize of the Ministry of Education Science and Technology Progress Award (first place), one first prize of Water Science and Technology Progress Award (first place) and three third prizes, two second prizes of technology progress award (first place) of Government of Shanxi Province and one second prize of Water Conservancy Science and Technology Progress Award of Government of Shanxi Province. He has authored or co-authored 9 books, and published more than 120 journal articles, among which more than 10 articles won the reward as excellent natural science articles in Shanxi Province.
He has got the special allowances as the outstanding young expert of Ministry of Agriculture and special allowances of the State Council, and he has won the Chinese Youth Science and Technology Award, the outstanding agricultural science and technology workers award and other honors and awards. He is the one of the first passel that in the "Shen Nong Scheme" of the Ministry of Agriculture and the first level candidates of "Three-Five Outstanding Expert Programme " in Shanxi Province, he is one of the winners of national "Hundred-Thousand-10-Thousand Talents Project ". He is among the 14 young experts first selected by the Chinese Academy of Sciences "Hundred Talents Project". In 1997, he won the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund.
